Professionals from the mainstream, specialist and buy-to-let (BTL) parts of the mortgage market have shared their views on how business might evolve over the year.
Paradigm’s latest set of Mortgage Market Insights videos included interviews with Richard Howes, director of mortgages at Paradigm, Rob Barnard, relationship director at Pepper Money, Richard Beardshaw, head of sales, mortgage intermediaries at HSBC, and Phil Riches, sales director at Keystone Property Finance.
Each video covers the interviewee’s opinion on how the mortgage market might play out in Q1 and the rest of the year, regarding potential business values and volumes as well as possible challenges.
The videos can be recorded as unstructured CPD learning for advisers.
Paradigm also has a range of additional CPD activities in different formats, which are free to use through its CPD Academy.
Howes (pictured) said: “Over the last couple of years, we’ve sought to get the views of senior lending personnel in order to get a grasp on where they think the market might be, what might unfold during the first quarter, and also a longer-term perspective on the year as a whole.
How to support young landlords

“This time around, we are pleased to get views from mainstream, specialist and BTL players, who have each been able to provide insight into their specific areas of expertise and, indeed, on how they as lenders are approaching the year ahead.”
He added: “2024 was a year of ups and downs and starts and stops, with a perception that many borrowers were often forced to adopt a wait-and-see approach to their mortgage decisions. Whether 2025 plays out in a similar vein remains to be seen, but we certainly believe there are a number of positives to be grasped and Paradigm will be supporting advisers and our members as they seek to make the most of these opportunities.
“These three Paradigm Insights videos should help shape a view on what is to come and where to place resource and investment. They are now available to view on our website, plus a range of other CPD content can also be accessed by registering with us for free. Throughout the year, we’ll continue to add more to our CPD Academy to ensure adviser members are fully up to date and on top of the market.”
Rob Barnard, relationship director at Pepper Money, said: “It was great to sit down and be part of this look at 2025 with Paradigm; most brokers and lenders should be coming into 2025 with bigger pipelines than they came into 2024 with, and hopefully the new year will bring with it more consistency in the mortgage market.
“The specialist sector will undoubtedly continue to grow, and the solutions offered by lenders like Pepper Money present more brokers with the opportunity to solve more of their customers’ complex situations.”
